Open Runs, also known as "open gym" or "pick-up", is a staple in basketball and follows a player-driven format which prioritises game skill practice in an informal, competitive environment.
Play freely, get your competitive reps in, and build your game.
Book ahead - turn up and play.
Open Run Schedule:
- Monday: 6:00pm – 7:00PM and 7:00PM - 8:00PM
- Wednesday: 8.00pm – 9:00pm
- Saturday: 3:00pm – 4:00pm and 4.00pm - 5.00pm
Cost: $10 per 1-hour booking.
Where: THF half-court.
Players: maximum 10 players per session (5 x 5).
RULES
Open Runs are self-regulated (no referee). Players are expected to come to a consensus on the rules for their session. However, there are some common rules and guidelines to ensure fair play and a positive experience for everyone:
- Fouls: offense call.
- Scoring: 1-2-3 rule. Paint shots are worth 1 point, threes are worth 2.
Players have the ability to adjust the game structure and scoring rules based on preference and skill balance. Some other, common modifications include no-dribble 5-on-5, zone on makes and man to man on misses, or special scoring scenarios like extra points for rebounds or assists.
Most importantly: keep teams balanced, keep it moving, keep it simple, and - most importantly - keep it positive and fun.
